Exercise 1 – Planning a Weekend Trip
Situation
Imagine that you and a friend are planning a weekend trip together. You need to decide where to go, what to do and how to organise the trip. Your friend has some ideas, but you may not agree with all of them.
Your task is to have a conversation in English and try to reach an agreement.
Practise with an AI
Act as my English-speaking friend. I am a B2 English learner and we are planning a weekend trip together. Have a natural conversation with me in English. Ask me questions one at a time and wait for my answer before continuing. React naturally to what I say and sometimes disagree with my ideas so that I have to respond and explain my opinions.
We need to discuss where to go, how to travel, where to stay, what activities to do and how much money to spend. Try to help me reach an agreement with you.
Do not correct my mistakes during the conversation. At the end, give me feedback on my grammar, vocabulary, fluency and pronunciation, and explain the most important mistakes I made.
- I think we should…
- I’d rather…
- What about…?
- I’m not sure about that because…
- That sounds like a good idea.
- I see your point, but…
- Why don’t we…?
- How about…?
Exercise 2 – Working from home: Is it a good idea?
Situation
Working from home has become increasingly common. Some people believe that it give workers more freedom and improves their quality of life, while others think that working in an office is better for communication and teamwork.
In this activity, you will discuss this topic with an AI and express your own opinions.
Practise with AI
Act as my English-speaking friend. I am a B2 English learner and we are going to discuss the topic of working from home. Have a natural conversation with me in English and ask me one question at a time.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of working from home, including productivity, work-life balance, communication, social interaction and family life. Ask me to explain and justify my opinions. Sometimes challenge my ideas or present a different point of view so that I have to respond.
Do not simply ask me a list of questions. React naturally to my answers and keep the conversation going. Do not correct my mistakes during the conversation. At the end, give me feedback on my grammar, vocabulary, fluency and pronunciation, and explain the most important mistakes I made.
Useful expressions for giving opinions
- In my opinion…
- I believe that…
- From my point of view…
- The main advantage is that…
- One possible disadvantage is…
- The reason I think this is that…
- I agree with you to some extent, but…
- I understand what you mean, however…
- It depends on…
- For example…
Por ejemplo, puedes preguntarle: What are the three most important things I should improve to speak English at B2 level?
